The Embassy Suites Hotel Dorado del Mar Beach & Golf Resort in Dorado, Puerto Rico flaunts a beautiful ocean front view through some of the most durable PVC windows and patio doors available worldwide.
Meeting the strict specification demands for this commercial application, Sheerframe PVC windows and sliding doors were supplied through a collaborative effort between L. B. Plastics, Mooresville, NC and Industrias Metalicas Marva, a Puerto Rican window fabricator.
The resort was developed by Mora Development of Puerto Rico and was constructed on the island's northern coast. Managed by Cleofi Rubi, president of Mora Development, the project was completed in late 2001 and offers over 150 suites and 55 condos in addition to restaurants and a ChiChi Rodriguez designed golf course.
"The PVC windows specified exceeded our requirements and are ideal for the sometimes harsh climate of the Caribbean," noted Rubi. "The hurricane-prone region can often serve up devastating weather patterns that we had to take into account when reviewing the exterior facade of the project."
The beachfront property needed strong structurally sound windows that would hold up under the tropical conditions of the coast and be maintenance-free even under these conditions. By being in such a demanding climate the main requirements of the window and door were that they not only be performance driven, but also work well in the aesthetic design of the resort.
Sheerframe PVC was selected because of its strength, structural integrity, and resistance to water and air infiltration. Sheerframe's total product performance of resisting the environment's strong winds, driving ocean rains and resistance against weathering over time were all vital considerations.
By meeting the developers strict specifications, Sheerframe windows were able to achieve significant savings in terms of maintenance and cooling bills and improve the comfort to building's occupants.
Another reason Sheerframe was chosen for the project was for its overall appearance. The window itself, has an elegant yet simple design and is made from 100 percent UV stabilized PVC. The soft white color of the window not only enhances aesthetics but also has an indefinite life span. Maintenance is also minimised since these windows do not need to be painted or repainted after several years, which on a high rise structure is an added value. The weatherability of Sheerframe PVC windows and doors and their maintenance free characteristics are an ideal advantage. In an oceanfront environment this is especially important because of the degradation by wind and saltwater.
